AAET is organizing the 2012 AAET ESTI Essay Competition for Young ASEAN Talent with Theme: Can Renewable Energy Save the World? The objective of the Essay Competition is to promote the awareness on building a Low Carbon Society for a sustainable ASEAN.
Undergraduates, postgraduates and young engineers, architects, technologists, industrialist of ASEAN countries are invited to use their innovative ideas and analytical skills to compete for one of three ASEAN ESTI Essay Writing Prizes.

CSIR INNOVATION AWARD FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN (CIASC-2012)
 Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is the premier Industrial R&D Organization in India. On the
occasion of its Diamond Jubilee in 2002, CSIR initiated Invention Award for school children to create awareness,
interest and motivation for Intellectual Property amongst children. 
AWARD
On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day, which is celebrated through out the world on 26
 April,   CSIR
invites applications for the  ‘CSIR Innovation Award for School Children (CIASC-2012)’. 
APPLICATION
Applicant must provide the details of the innovation submitted for the award in not more than 5000 words in
English/Hindi including an abstract (in not more than 100 words), authenticated (by giving seal and date) and sent
through the Principal / Head of the School where the student is enrolled and personal details on a separate page
as follows:
Title of the Innovation, Name, date of birth, school and residential address, class, telephone no. (residence /
school), e-mail address. 
In case of proposals already selected for state, national, international or equivalent awards, only the subject matter
covering the improvements need to be submitted for consideration of CIASC-2012.Innovations
Published/Exhibited  during the period January 1 to October 31,2012 may  be considered for the award.
The applications for the award not exceeding 5000 words in English/Hindi with requisite drawings/photographs will be
considered. The write-up must describe the subject matter in a problem-solution mode and highlighting the novel
features of the innovation and its advantages.
APPLICANT’S ELLIGIBILITY
Any Indian student enrolled in an Indian school below the age of 18 years as on 31
st
 July 2012 can apply.  A Student can
make only one entry.   Proposals can be submitted by a student or a group of students.
INNOVATION
The innovation submitted should be  a new concept or idea or a solution to an existing problem or
completely a new method/ process/ device/ utility. The concept of the innovation  should have been proved
through a model, a prototype or experimental data.  In case of working model/prototype only
photos/videos/drawings may be sent along with the application. 
  Essays/mere compilation of information from published literature/downloaded from internet will not be
considered for award. Details of any assistance/ guidance provided by teachers/parents/friends or others must be
appropriately  acknowledged.

Typed applications to be sent by Registered Post/Courier to: Head, Innovation Protection Unit-CSIR, NISCAIR
Building, 14 Satsang Vihar Marg, Special Institutional Area, New Delhi - 110 067 with the envelope marked on top
left hand corner 'CIASC-2012'. You may also send application through email addressed to
head.ipu@niscair.res.in.  However, a hard copy should also follow through post with Principal’s
authentication.

8. Infosys Foundation ISCA Travel Award

With a donation from Infosys Foundation, Bangalore, the Indian Science Congress Association has instituted this award namely, “Infosys Foundation – ISCA Travel Award” from 2004-2005 and to be given annually to five students (upto Class XII) during the Annual Session of the Indian Science Congress Association. The awardee will be paid TA (AC III – tire/Chair Car Train Fare), local hospitality, and a Plaque for attending the 100th Indian Science Congress to be held at Kolkata from 3-7 January, 2012.

Furthermore, five more deserving students will be funded for attending the Science Congress Sessions . The students will also be given TA (AC III – tier/Chair Car Train Fare) and hospitality for attending the Science Congress.

The selection of the awardee will be made by a committee constituted by the host university on the basis of the write-up on – What developments in Science during the last two years have influenced him/her and why?

Interested students (upto Class XII) are requested to submit an application with the above write up and brief bio-data (name, address, school, date of birth, class, phone/e-mail, extracurricular activities etc.)

Science Reporter, the popular science magazine, announced Science Fiction and Science Cartoon Competition for its readers.
The readers may take part in both the competitions. In the Science Cartoon category not more than four cartoons may be sent per entrant. The cartoons should be related to scientific topics only.
In the Science Fiction category readers are requested to send only one entry per entrant. The entries must be restricted to about 2000-2500 words.
The entries should be original and should be accompanied with a certificate of originality.
There is no entry fee.

National Level Painting Competition
The first three prize winners of each State/UT will be eligible for National Level Competition to be held on 12 December 2012

3. किशोर वैज्ञानिक प्रोत्साहन योजना - २०१२ KVPY - Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana 2012


About KVPY
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally and highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and career in research.
The objectives of the program are to identify the students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their potential in their studies; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies normally on Technology Day the May 11 and Second Sunday of July every year.
The selection of students is from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Natural and Basic Sciences having aptitude for scientific research. There are special groups or committees set up at IISc, which screen the applications, conduct aptitude test at various centres. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are invited for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview are required.
Generous scholarships are provided up to the pre-Ph.D. level to the selected students.

ELIGIBILITY
Selection to the program takes into account academic performance/excellence and demonstrated skill/interest in pursuing research as career. The final selection in all the streams is subject to an exclusive interview.

Basic Sciences

Stream SA: Students enrolled in the XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2012-13 and have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board Examination.
Students promoted through both the Summative Assessments-II conducted by the school and conducted by the Board are eligible to apply, if they satisfy the eligibility criteria.  If the students have obtained a letter grade in the qualified examination, they are requested to convert it into an appropriate % and fill-up the application form.
Stream SA - Mentoring Scheme: Eligibility same as above and the students need not apply separately for the Mentoring Scheme.
A Mentoring list over and above the regular merit list will be prepared.  The students under the mentorship list will not be eligible for any fellowship. Their fellowship will be activated when these students enrol in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./Int.M.Sc./M.S.) after their  XII Standard/(+2).
During the mentoring period of one year, they will be invited for Summer Programme/ Vijyoshi Camp and their travel and other related expenses will be met by KVPY.
Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) during the academic year 2012 – 13 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) for the session 2013 – 14 provided they have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board Examination.
Stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st year of B. Sc./B.S./Int. M.Sc./M.S. during the academic year 2012–13 and have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination.
Empowerment initiative for SC/ST students in the KVPY Fellowship Program: A number of additional fellowships (up to 100) exclusively for the meritorious SC/ST students under   the various stated above will be operated.  A special orientation program for the selected SC/ST   students will be organized.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
(i) Aptitude Test: After scrutiny of applications forms, based on the performance in the Board Examination, all the eligible students will be called for a written aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country on Sunday, th4th November, 2012The details of the venue of the aptitude test for the eligible students and their seat number will be published in the KVPY website during the first week of October 2012.
Admit Card
  • Students who have applied online may download the admit card for the aptitude test from the website from the second week of October 2012.
  • For students who have applied with a hard copy, admit card will be sent by speed post.
(ii) Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students will be invited for    an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

6. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students-2012 - Apply Now

New Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students has been introduced during XI Five Year Plan. The objective of the new scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low income families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the results of senior secondary examination. 82000 fresh scholarships per annum [41000 for boys and 41000 for girls] will be awarded for graduate/postgraduate studies in colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering etc.

ALLOCATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS: - 
The total number of scholarships will be divided amongst the State Boards based on the State’s population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating share of CBSE and ICSE on the basis of number of students passing out from various Boards in the country.  
50 % of the scholarships would be earmarked for girls.  The number of scholarships 2 allotted to a State Board  would be distributed amongst  pass outs of the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams of the State Board in the ratio of 3:2:1.
ELIGIBILITY 
 Students who are  above 80th  percentile  of  successful candidates in  the relevant stream  for a particular Board of Examination, in class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent and not belonging to the creamy layer as defined by the Deptt. of Personnel and Training and as may be further modified from time to time, pursuing regular courses (not correspondence or distance mode) from recognised educational institutions and not availing of any other scholarship scheme, would be eligible for consideration this Scheme. 
This is applicable to all categories of students both ‘general’ and ‘reserved’. 
Minimum Total Aggregate Marks for all categories (SC/ST/OBC/UR) to apply for Scholarship  (Marks in first five subjects)
Science : 418
Commerce: 396
Others: 332
Reservation 
Students belonging to reserved categories / weaker sections/minorities are eligible on the basis of merit, subject to Central Reservation Policy and internal earmarking. The scholarship would be available to students belonging to ‘non-creamy layer’.  As per the latest guidelines on the subject, the income-ceiling for ‘non-creamy layer’ is Rs. 4.5 lakhs per annum. At present, reservations for the various categories are as follows : SC 15 %   ST 71/2 %  OBC 27 % and horizontally 3 %  for Physically Handicapped in all the categories.
SELECTION PROCEDURE 
The examining bodies will draw up a merit  list of scholars [Annexure – I] likely to be eligible for scholarship within five weeks after the results of the examinations announced by the Boards/Universities/Authority for all students. The income of the students’ parents will be taken into account before preparing the list.  The Boards/Universities/Authority in  the State/Union Territory will write to the eligible students from the top of the merit list up to twice the number of scholarships available (to provide for possible refusal and ineligible cases) through a registered letter to confirm within 15 days whether he/she is prepared to accept the scholarship. 
The candidates from whom replies are not received within 30 days of the State Board / CBSE / ICSE seeking their willingness will  not be considered for  scholarship and the award will be given to the next eligible candidates in the merit list.
RATE OF SCHOLARSHIPS 
The rate of scholarship would be Rs.1000/- p.m. at Graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and Rs.2000/- per month at  Post- Graduation level.  
Students pursuing professional courses would get Rs.2000/- per month in the 4th and 5thyear.  The scholarship would be paid for 10 months in an academic year.
