2012 AAET ESTI Essay Competition for ASEAN Young Talents
AAET is organizing the 2012 AAET ESTI Essay Competition for Young ASEAN Talent with Theme: Can Renewable Energy Save the World? The objective of the Essay Competition is to promote the awareness on building a Low Carbon Society for a sustainable ASEAN.
Undergraduates,
postgraduates and young engineers, architects, technologists,
industrialist of ASEAN countries are invited to use their innovative

With a donation from Infosys Foundation, Bangalore, the Indian Science Congress Association has instituted this award namely, “Infosys Foundation – ISCA Travel Award” from 2004-2005 and to be given annually to five students (upto Class XII) during the Annual Session of the Indian Science Congress Association. The awardee will be paid TA (AC III – tire/Chair Car Train Fare), local hospitality, and a Plaque for attending the 100th Indian Science Congress to be held at Kolkata from 3-7 January, 2012.Furthermore, five more deserving students will be funded for attending the Science Congress Sessions . The students will also be given TA (AC III – tier/Chair Car Train Fare) and hospitality for attending the Science Congress.

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National
Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the
Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract
exceptionally and highly motivated students for pursuing basic science
courses and career in research.
The objectives of the program are to identify the students with talent
and aptitude for research; help them realize their potential in their
studies; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and
ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and
development in the country.
The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies normally on Technology Day the May 11 and Second Sunday of July every year.

The selection of students is from those studying in XI standard to 1st
year of any undergraduate Program in Natural and Basic Sciences having
aptitude for scientific research. There are special groups or committees
set up at IISc, which screen the applications, conduct aptitude test at
various centres. Based on the performance in the aptitude test,
short-listed students are invited for an interview which is the final
stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both
aptitude test and interview are required.

Basic Sciences
Stream SA: Students
enrolled in the XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year
2012-13 and have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST) marks in
aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board
Examination.
Students promoted through both the Summative Assessments-II conducted by the school and conducted by the Board are
eligible to apply, if they satisfy the eligibility criteria. If the
students have obtained a letter grade in the qualified examination, they
are requested to convert it into an appropriate % and fill-up the
application form.
Stream SA - Mentoring Scheme: Eligibility same as above and the students need not apply separately for the Mentoring Scheme.
A Mentoring list over and above the regular merit list will be
prepared. The students under the mentorship list will not be eligible
for any fellowship. Their fellowship will be activated when these
students enrol in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences
(B.Sc./B.S./Int.M.Sc./M.S.) after their XII Standard/(+2).
During the mentoring period of one year, they will be invited for Summer
Programme/ Vijyoshi Camp and their travel and other related expenses
will be met by KVPY.
Stream SX: Students
enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) during the academic
year 2012 – 13 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic
Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) for the session 2013 – 14 provided
they have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate
in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board Examination.
Stream SB: Students
enrolled in the 1st year of B. Sc./B.S./Int. M.Sc./M.S. during the
academic year 2012–13 and have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST)
marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects in the XII Standard Board
Examination.
Empowerment initiative for SC/ST students in the KVPY Fellowship Program: A
number of additional fellowships (up to 100) exclusively for the
meritorious SC/ST students under the various stated above will be
operated. A special orientation program for the selected SC/ST
students will be organized.

6. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students-2012 - Apply Now
New Central Sector
Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students has been
introduced during XI Five Year Plan. The objective of the new scheme is
to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low income
families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing
higher studies.
The scholarships will be
awarded on the basis of the results of senior secondary examination.
82000 fresh scholarships per annum [41000 for boys and 41000 for girls]
will be awarded for graduate/postgraduate studies in colleges and
universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering
etc.

ALLOCATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS: -
The total number of
scholarships will be divided amongst the State Boards based on the
State’s population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating
share of CBSE and ICSE on the basis of number of students passing out
from various Boards in the country.
50 % of the scholarships
would be earmarked for girls. The number of scholarships 2 allotted to
a State Board would be distributed amongst pass outs of the Science,
Commerce and Humanities streams of the State Board in the ratio of
3:2:1.
ELIGIBILITY
Students who are above
80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream
for a particular Board of Examination, in class XII of 10+2 pattern or
equivalent and not belonging to the creamy layer as defined by the
Deptt. of Personnel and Training and as may be further modified from
time to time, pursuing regular courses (not correspondence or distance
mode) from recognised educational institutions and not availing of any
other scholarship scheme, would be eligible for consideration this
Scheme.
This is applicable to all categories of students both ‘general’ and ‘reserved’.

Reservation
Students belonging to
reserved categories / weaker sections/minorities are eligible on the
basis of merit, subject to Central Reservation Policy and internal
earmarking. The scholarship would be available to students belonging to
‘non-creamy layer’. As per the latest guidelines on the subject, the
income-ceiling for ‘non-creamy layer’ is Rs. 4.5 lakhs per annum. At
present, reservations for the various categories are as follows : SC 15 %
ST 71/2 % OBC 27 % and horizontally 3 % for Physically Handicapped
in all the categories.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
The examining bodies
will draw up a merit list of scholars [Annexure – I] likely to be
eligible for scholarship within five weeks after the results of the
examinations announced by the Boards/Universities/Authority for all
students. The income of the students’ parents will be taken into account
before preparing the list. The Boards/Universities/Authority in the
State/Union Territory will write to the eligible students from the top
of the merit list up to twice the number of scholarships available (to

letter to confirm within 15 days whether he/she is prepared to accept
the scholarship.
The candidates from whom
replies are not received within 30 days of the State Board / CBSE /
ICSE seeking their willingness will not be considered for scholarship
and the award will be given to the next eligible candidates in the merit
list.
RATE OF SCHOLARSHIPS
The rate of scholarship
would be Rs.1000/- p.m. at Graduation level for first three years of
College and University courses and Rs.2000/- per month at Post-
Graduation level.
Students pursuing
professional courses would get Rs.2000/- per month in the 4th and
5thyear. The scholarship would be paid for 10 months in an academic
year.
